Obituary
Shannon Marie Johnston of Belton, Texas passed away in Killeen, Texas on February 6th, 2025.
Graveside services will be at 2pm on Saturday, February 15th, 2025, at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, Austin, TX. Visitation will be from 6-8pm on Thursday, February 13th, 2025, at Dossman Funeral Home, Belton, Texas.
Shannon was born on May 26th, 1970, at Darnall Army Hospital, Ft. Hood, Texas to Randal and Mary Lynn Deorsam Johnston. She spent her early years in Austin where she graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School. Shannon made friends easily in her community and was a member of the wonderful Good Friends Social Club. She later moved to West Chester, PA where she lived with her sister, Randy Frink. There she worked at Bryan’s House, a sheltered workshop, for several years and enjoyed music, dancing, horseback riding on the farm, RV road trips, and travel. She returned to Texas in her later years and, most recently, was a participant at the Dementia Enrichment Center in Belton. She enjoyed meeting new people and all of the activities and socialization the center offered her.
Shannon loved watching old TV shows and movies, her favorite TV show being Dukes of Hazzard. On a trip to South Carolina, she got to go to Cooter’s where she met John Schneider (Bo) and Ben Jones (Cooter) and others. She liked to draw, color or work on puzzle books in her spare time, and loved spending time with all the dogs that were in her life.
The family would like to thank all of the angels over the years who took Shannon under their wings and befriended and cared for her - Cindy Townsend, Hope Foster, Jessica Gambil, and more recently, Hailey Peek and her entire outstanding staff at the Dementia Enrichment Center and Heartprint Home, and Jenny Ruiz and her extraordinary family.
Our precious Shannon, the love you have brought, the lessons you have taught us, the joy you have given, and the sweet kindness you have shared, will be in our hearts forever. Our love for you is endless. Thank you for always doing the best you could with what you were given.
Shannon is survived by her sisters Randy Frink of Belton, Texas and Sandy Slater and husband Mike also of Belton, Texas; nephews Chris Mack, and John Christensen and wife Denise, grandnephew Tanner and grandniece Haley; several first and second cousins, and the family dogs, Zoey Frink, Jasmine Mack, and Buddy Slater.
Shannon is preceded in death by her parents and brother Rickey Lee Johnston.
